When customers contact Meadows Farms looking for a landscape designer, it is usually because they want to make their grounds more beautiful, harmonious and livable. CHRISTY'S approach to landscape design for each customer. She knows that quality designs come from carefully listening to customers and what they have pictured in their own minds. She uses her experience and sensitivities to create beautiful landscapes that reflect how the customer will use the outdoor space, as well as reflect their style and taste.
This can involve creating new gardens and spaces, or perking up existing gardens. Whatever direction the design takes . . . whether a more formal design style based on symmetry and geometry . . . cottage garden designs based on naturalism and imitation of nature, or modern style based on simplicity, she will take into account your lifestyle and the design of your home.
Other considerations will include plants with year-round interest, with special attention to designing landscapes that are colorful, even in fall and winter; outdoor "rooms" for outdoor living using walkways, patios, retaining walls; water features such as ponds and fountains; using new plant cultivars that often bloom more profusely and are hardier.
Christy's background includes a BS from Columbia University in New York City in Art and Architectural History. More recently, she received a graduate degree from George Washington University in Landscape Design, a program which included intense studies in horticulture, design, landscape design history, botany, site analysis and engineering. Previous to landscape design, she was vice president of a publishing company for 20 years. She took a year to travel around the world, spending time in Japan, Southeast Asia, India, Nepal, and has lived in Spain and Mexico. All of which has given her a love of many other cultures and an appreciation of their sense of beauty.
