October is National Breast Cancer Research Month!
A great big THANK YOU to everyone who came out to see us over our Pink Day weekend (Oct 11-13). We will let you know the grand donation total soon!
Check out our Pink Day photo album here!
All donations go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF). BCRF is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) that is the only breast cancer organization to be awarded an “A+” by CharityWatch.
In 2013 we raised over $23,000, bringing our total raised since we began hosting Pink Day to over $50,000 as of 2013!
Congratulations to Adrienne in the Chantilly area for winning our $500 “Pink Day” raffle. Her ticket #588691 was drawn randomly from thousands of entries. Thank you to all that participated and for helping to support our efforts to support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
This year we added an exciting event:
MEADOWS FARMS EMPLOYEES JUMP OUT OF A PLANE TO CURE CANCER!
Some of our brave employees participated in fundraising for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation by asking sponsors to champion them as they jumped out of an airplane on Saturday October 4th at the Warrenton Airpark! We had a GREAT jump! Congratulations to all the jumpers, and a big THANK YOU to all their supporters! It's for a great cause!
Summaries from across out stores:
Pink Day at Ruckersville
You’re driving up 29 on your day off and you see this person dressed head to toe in pink with a pink cowboy hat and a full white beard. He waves up the road to Meadows Farms Nursery. You think, something really fun must be going on here today as you see the banner that says It’s Pink Day!
When you walk into the nursery, you are greeted by hot pink waving banners and a welcome table where you get a pink ribbon to pin on your shirt and a door prize ticket for the door prizes given away on the hour. As you turn the corner, you will see the Martha Jefferson Breast Cancer and Mammography information table with handouts and magnetic ribbons. In the garden center, the singers and bands take center stage and you hear a variety of music throughout the day from Lanard and Subtle Frankenstein, but your favorite is “Save the Bees”, a love song about how without the bees I would have no fruit and could buy you no flowers.
Crystal, you can spot her with the pink antenna, calls a door prize number and the winner receives a gift certificate to Walmart! Over to the side, you bid on 2 or 3 silent auction items at the table surrounded by pink pumpkins. You really hope you win! You see signs that donations to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation can be made with a credit card at the register, so you make a donation and head towards the greenhouse. Entering the greenhouse, you will not only be surrounded by beautiful mums and pansies, but by the friendly vendors.
Past the vendors is the children’s area with face painting, glitter tattoos, games, and a craft table where you hear the children laughing and playing. Over to your right, you are greeted by the smell of hot apple cider and melted caramel for the “make your own” caramel apple station. With toppings like melted chocolate, mini chocolate chips, nuts, coconut, and pink glitter sprinkles, your mouth waters. As it nears lunch, you follow the delicious aroma to the taco truck and purchase one carne asada, delicioso! But before you’re too full, you head to the grilled hotdogs and pink lemonade.
As you head out, you stop at the “take your own photo” photo booth and try on the ridiculous, yet so much fun, pink props, you take a selfie, and you tag Meadows Farms Nursery to remember this fun-filled, unforgettable day.

Pink Day at Manassas
Manassas had a great Pink Day! On Saturday October 11th we put on our festive fundraising hats & enjoyed all the events the day had to offer. Local bands Prince William Sound Barbershop Quartet, Chelle Fulk, Calico Jenny, Christiana Trenum, & Red Version all drew crowds of energetic listeners while the martial arts demonstration by Manassas Martial Arts really grabbed attention!
We had over 29 local crafters & artisans that filled up the parking lot, making it an exciting experience! Food vendors peddling cupcakes, ice cream, BBQ, fresh French fries & kettle corn satisfied the hungry crowd!
Supportive local businesses donated over $4,000 worth of merchandise & gift certificates, making the 2014 Silent Auction a great success! The moon bounce was up & running (entertaining kids of all ages), and our pumpkin patch & haunted maze gave kids something fun to do while their parents perused the Pink Day happenings.
Thanks to everyone who braved the chilly weather to come out! Check out our Facebook photo album here!
