When the leaves have all fallen, the flowers have died, and the grass is no longer green, you can still enjoy some curb appeal with a few easy decorating ideas.

First, look around your yard to see what IS green! You may see pines, spruces, hemlocks, hollies, and magnolias, to name a few. You may have your very own almost-endless supply of fresh greens for the winter. You can create an elegant porch pot using a large container and a mixture of heights and textures from your evergreens. Decorate with real or artificial berries, and a few shiny balls, for a florist-quality outdoor arrangement.

Choose a wreath for your front door that will leave 5-6” on each side of the wreath (a 30” WREATH is a good fit for most standard doors and will look proportional) Wreath hangers are an easy and inexpensive way to hang your wreaths. Finish your wreath with a bow, again making sure it is neither too large nor too small for the wreath. Instead of a wreath, you may prefer a swag of greenery hanging down – these can be purchased or made, once again, from fresh greens in the landscape.

When choosing garland, you should measure the area you want to cover. Garland comes in varying styles and thicknesses. When decorating a pole, make sure your garland is twice the height of the pole. An 8-foot pole should have 16 feet of garland to wrap around. For a mantle, add 4 feet to the length so that it hangs down on either side 2 feet. For a fence, measure the length and add half to the total, so if you have 16 feet, you should have 24 feet of garland.

These are just a few of the ways to make your holiday decorating more comfortable and more enjoyable.
