The Alternative Product to Round-Up

Like me, many of you may have read the most recent news article claiming that the active ingredient in the widely used weed killer Roundup can cause cancer.  Some studies have shown that there is a higher risk of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma for people exposed to glyphosate-based formulas.

Conversely, there are many studies –scientific and medical – which demonstrate that glyphosate is safe and no association with any form of cancer.

So, what is a gardener to do?

Roundup and glyphosate have been sold commercially for decades.  As a retail garden center, we have sold Roundup for years and we considered Roundup to be safe and effective.

Until it is emphatically determined that Roundup is safe or unsafe, we, here, with The Great Big Greenhouse & Meadows Farms Nurseries have made a conscientious decision to err on the side of caution.  We have made the decision to phase out Roundup from our retail shelves going forward.

So, what can we use as an alternative to Roundup in order to kill unwanted weeds?  We are now recommending the Messina’s Pulverize as the alternative of choice.  Pulverize is made with fatty acids and is very safe and eco-friendly.

Pulverize comes in two forms.  One is a broadleaf weed killer that can be used safely killing weeds in the lawn.  The other form is both a weed and grass killer.

This Weed & Grass Killer is a fast acting weed, grass, algae and moss killer.  Pulverize suppresses the growth of some bi-annuals and perennials weeds.  It can be used in cultivated areas prior to planting grass or flowers.  Areas can be re-sown 5 days after treatment.  Pulverize Weed & Grass Killer can be used at any time during the year.

Two weeks ago I was given a free sample of the Weed & Grass Killer to try out.  I have a gravel driveway and could see some grass, moss, and some weeds trying to grow in the gravel.  I went out and sprayed my driveway.  As the bottle stated, within 20 minutes I was seeing results.  The grass clumps were dead, the moss turned a yellow, rust color, and the little broadleaf weeds withered.

Because of this personal experience I have confidence in recommending Pulverize products as the best alternative to Roundup.

HAPPY GARDENING!!!

I live in the Mesa Arizona area and have a zero scape for 1/2 an acre, natural desert for the remaining 1/2 acre. For fifteen plus years I’ve used a Roundup facsimile with good but slow acting results. Would Pulverize be good for a total kill weed and grass eliminator ?
    Thank You

    • Jim,
      Good Morning.
My thought is to give Pulverize a try. I always had used Round Up to kill my weeds and I like the results. I have tried Pulverize with good results. Not sure if I would say that Pulverize did better than Round Up. I miss Round Up to be honest. Good Luck. Doug
